Ethiopia - Day 2

August 24th, 2008-

This was a pretty low key day for all of us to spend with our kiddos and try to get accustomed to Ethiopian time. Chris and I started our day at 2 am, wide awake from the 9 hour time difference. Luckily we were staying in a little apartment and were able to go into the living room and watch the Olympics as Yonas slept. Watching the Olympics was a real treat, since we weren't able to watch any at home!
At a more reasonable hour, Jenn came down with Effie and her computer so we could send e-mails and check on life in the western world. It was so nice having the other families staying at the same hotel. It brought back memories of living in the dorms at Michigan State, except that we all had new babies and we didn't play candy poker!
Chris then went with Pete to the airport to try and track down our lost luggage. At the airport, Chris had to pay to enter, since he wasn't flying out that day. We assume that this is the situation so they don't get homeless in the airport sleeping or just hanging out. I have to say that this is THE most basic airport, especially for an international airport, that I have ever seen. It looked deserted. To all of our amazement, our suitcase was on the conveyor belt as Chris got there. This was our case with ALL of our baby clothes and ALL of our clothes, so we were happy, to say the least, to see it again!

The rest of the day was spent with the other families hanging out in Pete and Jenn's room. Our agency representative, Emebet, met with each family and filled out the last of our paperwork for our US Embassy appointment which was the following day. After all of this time, it was a relief to see an end to the paperwork! This was also the day of Yonas' first bath. He loved, loved, loved it and his skin REALLY needed it. He had a horrible diaper rash and lots of bites, but it is amazing how quickly it all cleared.
