During our million hours of adoption training, it was often brought up about the insensitive things that strangers will say to you in public about adopting a child of a different race. We have been home now for just under a month and no one has said anything to us about Yonas being adopted or have asked where he is from. When we were in Ethiopia, quite a few Ethiopians told us that Yonas looks like Chris. Then we were on our flight home and a woman told Chris that his son looked like him but must have his mother's eyes. (I wish:) Hmm..., maybe it is the large foreheads???????

I was at RMNP about a month ago at the visitor's center, and Lidya and I were sitting on a bench waiting for my friend, and this older woman yelled from across the room: "She's adorable. Where'd you get her?" I wanted to say "K-Mart, they were having a sale" but bit my tongue. We've had a few other comments like that, but nothing horribly offensive. Most of all we get "oh, she's so cute, look at those eyes" which I think is what people say when they are internally processing us and trying to figure us out.
