A Bird in the Hand

What does this mean? We have been working hard to find tickets to Addis that don't bankrupt us, but it is not easy! We are working with a travel agent who has 2 tickets on hold for us and we are waitlisted on another flight. This has been going on since Thursday and I am getting antsy to get those tickets in my hand. He really wants to get us the best deal, but I don't think that I can wait much longer. He keeps telling me, "Mary, we have a bird in the hand so don't worry." What the heck is that?????

the saying originated as "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush" ...in otherwords, if you have one bird in your hand, it's worth more than going and trying to find two in the bush (woods, forest, etc).... translation? stick with the tickets you have rather than trying to go hunting for 2 tickets that you might not find. just my thoughts.
